The House-Tree-Person
Strategies~~element17House-tree-person drawings (H-T-P) are often sent to the Center by criminal justice and mental health professionals from all over the world. H-T-P’s are considered a suggestive representation of how the artist views him/herself in multiple domains. The figure is considered the closest representation to the inner self and demonstrates attitudes and concerns, among others. The house reflects body image, emotional accessibility, maturity and contact with reality while the tree is thought to reflect inner strength and satisfaction with one’s environment. Our collection of almost 2000 drawings from around the globe consistently demonstrates that firesetters of all ages, from childhood through adult life, tend to include symbols of fire in their artwork.
